What's in it for you

An exciting 6-month opportunity is available in our supportive, and collaborative Transport finance team for an experienced Project Accountant or Management Accountant. You will be working with one of New Zealand's largest providers of essential infrastructure services, on a variety of civil construction projects. As Project Accountant you will be the key provider of financial support to the branch, and there is a real opportunity for you to make a difference by implementing change and improvements to financial support.

About the role

The role is primarily focused on reporting to the Project Finance Manager, you will ensure solid processes are in place and supporting the Regional Operations Manager with financial business partnering on a portfolio of transport construction projects.

You will ensure solid processes are in place to achieve accurate reporting, timely insights to performance and data integrity. You will look for opportunities to improve systems and processes or establish new processes where appropriate. You will monitor project costs, provide analytical reviews, understand percentage completion for every project, and provide financial advice to your main operational stakeholders. You will have the strength of personality to influence stakeholders and deliver change, coupled with the emotional intelligence to bring people along on the change journey with you.

Travel and flexibility.

The projects you will be supporting are based in the Whangarei area, so ideally you will be living in the local area. However, if you are not based in Whangarei, there is an expectation that you will travel to visit the site office once a week. This requirement may reduce over the period of the contract depending on stakeholder requirements. This role offers flexibility in relation to start and finish times and hybrid work from the office/work from home arrangements can also be made.


About you

Experience and SKills

  • Previous project accounting, management accounting or finance business partnering experience
  • Demonstrable finance experience on construction/maintenance projects, from the infrastructure or building industries
  • SAP experience and capability including the ability to restructure coding
  • CA qualfied is a preference
Analytically strong, you thrive in a fast-paced environment with conflicting deadlines. You have a high level of written and oral literacy in English and you cope well with pressure, working with multiple stakeholders and conflicting deadlines.

Highly motivated, you have excellent organizational and time management skills and take pride in your quest for continuous improvement. Your leadership style is collaborative, empowering, and inclusive. Your ability to identify, evaluate, and respond to the commercial risks of current and potential business opportunities, will ensure you add value with this role.
