About the Role

Ventia is currently seeking individuals to join our Care & Custody team in Port Lincoln.

Successful applicants will commence as Trainee Care & Custody Officers, undertaking comprehensive paid training and development while working towards a Certificate III in Correctional Practice.

Candidates must be available to attend and participate in a five-week, face-to-face paid training program commencing on 21 September 2026, in Adelaide. Training will be completed as a casual employee.

Upon successful completion of the training program and all role requirements, trainees will have the opportunity to transition into a full-time Care & Custody Officer position with Ventia.

We are seeking individuals with a flexible mindset and strong interpersonal skills who can engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly, manage conflict calmly, and navigate challenging situations with confidence. Our Care & Custody Officers are respectful, non-judgemental, and committed to treating everyone with dignity and fairness.

Trainee Opportunities

  • Five weeks of paid, face-to-face training commencing 21 September 2026
  • Training completed on a casual employment basis
  • Applicants must be available for the full five-week training period in Adelaide
  • 8-12 hour shifts with a strong focus on nights and weekends
  • 24/7 operational environment with varying shift patterns
  • Casual pay rate $34.71 per hour, permanent rate $27.77
  • Full-time Care & Custody Officer opportunities available upon successful completion of training and role requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety and security of Persons in Custody.
  • Escort and transport Persons in Custody.
  • Provide care in hospital and court settings.

Requirements:

  • Driver's licence (MR Truck licence highly regarded).
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid certification.
  • Available for travel (road and air).
  • Australian working rights.
  • Ability to pass Police checks, Working with Children Check, and pre-employment medical (including drug & alcohol test).
