Position: Senior Data Engineer
Location:North Sydney or Brisbane Office with Hybrid options available
Monday-Friday, 6 month assignment, ASAP Start
Job Responsibilities
The Senior Data Engineer plays a critical role in Ventia's Evolve Program, responsible for guiding the transition of reporting and analytics capabilities from the legacy SAP ECC6 and BW platforms to S/4HANA and associated modern platforms. Ventia's data platform landscape includes Databricks, Power BI, and other tools, with thousands of reports-both sanctioned and unsanctioned-requiring rationalisation, governance, and alignment with future-state architecture. This role requires deep expertise in enterprise reporting, strong business process knowledge, and proven experience managing complex transitions involving multiple platforms and stakeholder groups. The successful candidate will work across business and project teams to define reporting requirements, establish governance, and ensure a smooth and value-driven transition to S/4HANA
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
Australian citizen candidates only; with AGSVA - Baseline Clearance or capable of obtaining.
- 6+ years of experience in Data Engineering and Enterprise Data Warehouse Modelling,skillset including expertise in:
- Databricks and medallion architecture
- Meta-data driven ETL frameworks
- Autoloader from Azure ADLS Gen 2 storage account
- Unity Catalog, tagging, DQ monitoring, row level security functions.
- Data Modelling - Kimball Dimensional Modelling
- Strong knowledge of reporting and analytics platforms including Power BI and SAP
- Analytics Cloud
- Strong knowledge of SAP source systems including SAP BW, SAP ECC6, S4HANA
- Good understanding of SAP Datasphere / Custom CDS views
- Proven success in managing remediation activities in Databricks
- Experience in data governance, rationalisation, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to navigate complex data platform landscapes and drive simplification.
Desirable
- Experience with SAP BTP and embedded analytics.
- Experience with SAP Group Reporting deployments leveraging SAP analytics cloud.
- Familiarity with infrastructure, services, or asset-heavy sectors.
