Job description

The Role
Ventia, in collaboration with the Australian Defence Force, is on the lookout for an enthusiastic Kitchen Hand who is passionate about delivering exceptional food and outstanding customer service. Join our vibrant team and support daily kitchen operations and high-quality food preparation, including meal service and event catering.

This is a Temp contract that is based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia, with rostered shifts available any day from Monday to Sunday. The kitchen operates daily from approximately 6:00am to 9:30pm, with VIP events extending until around 11:00pm. Successful candidates will also have the chance to work at other Defence locations for camps, including Hampstead Barracks, Murray Bridge and Cultana.

Benefits

  • Casual pay rate of $35 per hour
  • Penalty rates for shifts after 6 pm, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Additional allowances for laundry, tools and first aiders (if/when certified).
  • Uniform/PPE supplied.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Assist with basic food preparation, including items such as sandwiches, bircher muesli, yogurt, and grab-and-go options.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service with a positive and professional demeanour.
  • Support the implementation and management of Ventia's Food Safety Program.
  • Help with stock management tasks, including rotation, checking labels and use-by dates, loading and unloading supplies, restocking consumables, and assisting with stock take.
  • Clean, sanitise and maintain cooking utensils, equipment and food preparation areas.
  • Aid chefs and dining room attendants as required, especially during peak times.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience delivering food and beverage services in hotels, restaurants or high-volume dining establishments. (Required)
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to high standards of customer service and food preparation.
  • Sound knowledge of Food Safety Standards, relevant legislation, and statutory obligations.
  • Current Australian drivers licence. (Required)

Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance up to the level of Baseline. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen.
