Ventia is seeking a Fibre Engineer to join the team supporting major infrastructure projects. Based in Adelaide, you'll be working in a small team alongside experienced engineering professionals assisting with project drawings and fibre network design. Working in a collaborative team, this role provides exposure to complex communications and network infrastructure and long-term growth opportunities.

While this role is initially a 6-month assignment aligned with the testing and commissioning phase of the project, there's potential to transition to permanent employment.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare fibre connectivity and block diagrams for MMCS/PMCS, PA/GNSS, mobile, fire, SAPOL, HV, MABN, CDN and building services.
  • Develop splicing diagrams for the applicable A and B backbones, showing cable identification, fibre core assignments, splice connections and spare cores.
  • Prepare fibre port allocation drawings showing terminations and port assignments at FOBOTs and other designated connection points.
  • Check that cable IDs, core numbers, equipment IDs, locations and drawing references agree across the design documents.
  • Update drawings and registers in response to design changes and review comments, maintaining clear revision records.
  • Identify missing information, conflicting allocations and potential design issues, and raise them with the supervising engineer.
  • Coordinate drawing inputs with CAD designers and other discipline teams, and support internal design reviews.

Required qualifications and skills

  • A degree in electrical, electronic, telecommunications or a related engineering discipline is advantageous.
  • Design experience in a construction background.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, follow structured design information and work accurately with detailed schedules.
  • Sound understanding of fibre optic network fundamentals, or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
  • Good Excel skills and clear written communication.
  • Ability to organise work across multiple drawings and respond constructively to review comments.
  • Experience with Visio, fibre splicing documentation, cable schedules or transport infrastructure projects would be advantageous.
