A qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer is required for the SKAO Project, a significant initiative and international collaboration to build the world's largest and most capable radio telescopes, aimed at revolutionising our understanding of the universe.
This role is based at the Central Processing Facility, where work involves building and finishing key site infrastructure that will support data processing and operational systems for over 130,000 antennas.
The Role
- Start Date: January 2026
- Roster: 2 weeks on / 1 week off (until June 2026)
- Hours: 12-hour days (6am - 6pm), every day during swing
- Location: CPF site, approx. 400km from Geraldton, WA
- Camp-based role: Live-in camp operating 24/7

Requirements:
- Manage and supervise mechanical subcontractors on-site.
- Oversee installation and commissioning of: HVAC systems i.e. Chilled water systems, Fire protection systems, Compressed air and gas suppression systems
- Coordinate with electrical and structural teams for integrated delivery
- Notify stakeholders of test inspections and assist the quality team with documentation
- Undertake quality inspections and ensure compliance with standards
- Raise Technical Queries and resolve design/construction issues
- Prepare and submit progress reports to the Project Manager
- Ensure site safety compliance and lead by example in a remote FIFO environment
Mandatory:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 4-5 years experience in mechanical engineering within construction or commissioning projects
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Driver Licence
- White Card
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts in remote conditions
- Ability to pass FIFO medical and site inductions
